About us

The beginnings of cooperatives in Marina date back to:

1908 when the Mutual Farmer’s Fund was founded

1936 the heavyweights of the Marin region join together in the “Oil-Milling Cooperative”

1939 they build an oil mill and a mill

1959 “Uljarsko-mlinarska” and P.Z. “Gustirna” merged into P.Z. “Marina”, which operates under the same name even today

The cooperative has always been the driving force behind the development of this area.

In the 1950s, seven fishing teams worked as part of the cooperative, which caught fish with seine nets and trawlers.

At that time, the area of Marina was also known for the production of dried figs, which it marketed in the area of the former state.

Medicinal plants were also collected and grocery trade was developed.

In the 1960s, due to the process of industrialization, part of the population left the villages and went to the cities. Agricultural production is stagnating.

All this time, the cooperative was engaged in savings and credit business. It collected surplus funds from cooperative members and distributed them, with favorable interest, to those who needed them.

In the 1970s, after the arrival of electricity and water, tourism began to develop. The cooperative invests in the renovation of the old fort, “Kula”, and turns it into a hotel with 40 beds. Then the cooperative opened a restaurant, and the crowning investment in tourism was the construction of the harbor in 1990. together with a foreign partner.

In the 1990s, the Cooperative additionally invests in the production of olive oil, and modern machinery for processing olives is acquired.

Today, P.Z. “Marina” is recognizable for the production of domestic extra virgin olive oil and virgin olive oil, preserved table olives and, in recent years, jams based on figs, marasca cherries, domestic oranges and other fruits characteristic of our climate, all produced in cooperation with its cooperatives and subcontractors, of which there are over 1,000.
